Research has proven that Equality and Diversity in the workplace should be taken very seriously.
Did you know:
- 3.5 million people with disabilities are in work (ONS, 2008)
- 7% of the population are LGBT (Talent not Tokenism, EHRC, TUC, CBI, 2008)
- By 2020 UK’s ethnic population will be 11% (Equalities Review 2007)
- By 2030 50% of UK population will be 50+ and 33% 60+ (ONS 2006)

Statistically, there are some alarming values attiributed to getting the equlaity and diversity policy in your workplace wrong.
- Race Discrimination – average payout £10k maximum was £124k
- Sex Discrimination – average payout £15k maximum was £138k
- Disability Discrimination – average payout was £15k maximum was £138k
- Costs attributable to replacing lost employee – £18k (CIPD)

Remember, the new Equality Act ensures that all protected characteristics have the same level of protection, so it will only be a matter of time before we could see all workplace discrimination having a maximum pay out of £124k.
