    Research has proven that Equality and Diversity in the workplace should be taken very seriously.

    Did you know:

    • 3.5 million people with disabilities are in work (ONS, 2008)
    • 7% of the population are LGBT (Talent not Tokenism, EHRC, TUC, CBI, 2008)
    • By 2020 UK’s ethnic population will be 11% (Equalities Review 2007)
    • By 2030 50% of UK population will be 50+ and 33% 60+ (ONS 2006)

    The cost of getting your Equality and Diversity in the workplace wrong

    Statistically, there are some alarming values attiributed to getting the equlaity and diversity policy in your workplace wrong.

    • Race Discrimination – average payout £10k maximum was £124k
    • Sex Discrimination – average payout £15k maximum was £138k
    • Disability Discrimination – average payout was £15k maximum was £138k
    • Costs attributable to replacing lost employee – £18k (CIPD)

    Remember, the new Equality Act ensures that all protected characteristics have the same level of protection, so it will only be a matter of time before we could see all workplace discrimination having a maximum pay out of £124k.
